Everything I know about (Star Wars character), Episode II

A few days ago, I was watching a YouTube video in which a gamer was playing the video game LEGO Star Wars: the Force Awakens. He stumbled across the character Shaak Ti and asked if anyone watching the video knew who the character is. I typed in the comments a brief explanation of what I knew about the character. Over the next few days, I remembered a few more things and I added those things by editing the initial comment. I enjoyed the experience and it inspired my next series of blog posts: Everything I know about (Star Wars character)! Every day I will pick a Star Wars character at random and type in absolutely EVERYTHING I know about them!!!!

Admiral Ackbar

Admiral Ackbar is a Star Wars character. He first appeared in the 1983 film, Return of The Jedi. He is part of an amphibious race called the Mon Calamari. He and several other Mon Calamari are part of the fleet of the Rebel Alliance and are present when Mon Mothma, the leader of the rebels, gives a briefing on the seemingly unfinished Death Star II.

He participates in the Battle of Endor in space, attacking the Death Star II. When he realizes that the Death Star II is fully operational, he yells, "It's a trap!" This line has become a popular internet meme, and has been used in various spoofs of Star Wars, including the LEGO Star Wars television and game series, and an episode of Family Guy that spoofs Return of The Jedi is named after it.

Ackbar was leaked in a mail-in toy offer from Kenner a few months before the film's release, and was officially revealed in the Star Wars magazine, Bantha Tracks. At that point, the film was to be titled Revenge of The Jedi.

The expanded universe reveals that Ackbar and the Mon Calamari were enslaved by the Empire, the builders of the Death Star II, but were freed by the rebels. In Marvel's non-canon Star Wars comic, Ackbar and Mothma hold the First Council Of Free Peoples. Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Princess Leia Organa miss the conference.

The prequel television series Star Wars: the Clone Wars did a three-episode storyline at the premiere of its fourth season. It comprises the episodes "Water War," "Gungan Attack," and "Prisoners." The storyline reveals that Ackbar and and the Mon Calamari share their home planet, Mon Cala, with another aquatic race, the Quarren. In the storyline, Ackbar is a captain in the Mon Cala military. The king, who is a Mon Calamari, is killed, and tensions between the Mon Calamari and the Quarren stretch to the breaking point.

While Jedi Anakin Skywalker, Ahsoka Tano, and Kit Fisto and senator Padme Amidala are sent to negotiate peace, separatist Riff Tamson is sent to stir up the Quarren, which he does. The Quarren refuse to allow the king's son, Prince Lee-Char, to become king, and attack the the next day. Ackbar, Lee-Char, their allies hide in a cave, and they call the Jedi Council for help.

The council sends their amphibious allies, the Gungans, who arrive and defend the Mon Calamari. However, Anakin, Ahsoka, Fisto, Padme, Ackbar, and Jar Jar Binks, a gungan who is an old friend of Anakin and Padme, are captured by Tamson. He demands the location of the Prince. After Tamson breaks Padme's helmet, Anakin reveals where the Prince is to save Padme from drowning. Tamson refuses to save Padme and goes to capture the Prince. Jar Jar spits on Padme's helmet to seal it. At the Prince's execution, Nossor Ri, the leader of the Quarren, betrays Tamson and frees everyone. Lee-Char kills Tamson and becomes King.

Ackbar also appears in several LEGO sets, and in the non-canon television series LEGO Star Wars: the Yoda Chronicles, where he is Yoda and Mace Windu's pilot. However the ship falls apart. Later, when the main characters are caught in a trap, Ackbar says, "I tried to warn you!" hinting at his famous line.

In the 2015 film, Star Wars: the Force Awakens, Ackbar is a part of General Leia Organa's Resistance. He appears being told by Finn, a defected Stormtrooper, about an evil secret weapon, Starkiller Base. He has two lines during this scene: "How is it possible to power a weapon of that size?" and "They have defensive shields that our ships cannot penetrate."

He also appears in the 2016 video game, LEGO Star Wars: the Force Awakens, in the parts of the story that adapt Return of The Jedi and Star Wars: the Force Awakens. Also, in a post-credits scene, he appears playing a video game with a Resistance pilot named Poe Dameron. When Leia walks by, they pretend to be planning an attack on Starkiller Base. When she leaves, they high-five and return to the video game.

Also, in the "Star Wars Adventure" bonus level, "Poe to the Rescue," Ackbar is captured by the First Order, an evil group that arose from the remains of the Empire. Poe, C-3PO, and Poe's astromech droid, BB-8, sneak on board and rescue him. However, they are attacked by Stormtroopers and are forced to hide in a trash compactor. They escape and steal a First Order Transporter. They fly it to an asteroid where their ships are hidden, and release a swarm of mynocks to attack the First Order. Upon completing the level, Ackbar is unlocked as a playable character.

He also appears in the "Star Wars Adventure" bonus level, "Ottegan Assault," where he helps an Ottegan Enclave escape the First Order. When one of the Ottegans tells him it is not likely that their leader, who has been captured, will be able to hold up under questioning. Ackbar wakes a sleeping Resistance pilot and tells him to contact Admiral Statura and tell him to send Poe Dameron to the planet Jakku.

One of the carbonite bricks in the game, collectibles that unlock classic Star Wars characters, is classic Ackbar, who then becomes a playable character.

Ackbar is also set to appear in this December's Star Wars: the Last Jedi.
