Sing (2016) movie review

Going into this review, I want to make 1 thing clear: This is not one of those animated movies that is a totally different genre then it's marketed as.

Admittedly, beneath the surface, Sing has nothing to do with singing. It's about someone who's trying to live up to his father's expectations, as well as his own expectations; his best friend; an overworked mother; a kid who wants to do what he loves instead of his dad's dirty work; a girl getting over her fear of doing what she loves; an angst-y teenager; and an annoying street musician who fell straight out of the fifties and doesn't learn any sort of lesson at the end of the movie.

It's not a grown-up movie about growing up like Inside Out. It's not a crime thriller like Zootopia. It's a creatively scripted, amazingly acted, and dazzlingly animated story about people achieving their dreams, and how when you hit rock bottom, the only way to go is up, and it's the best animated movie of all time.

The talented voices behind Black Widow and Wreck-it Ralph don't hurt either.
